Frontline Plus For Cats: Fleas Are Still On My Cat after Five Months of Using Frontline Correctly

I have a wonderful, loveable cat named Mckinnley who is 11 years old. She is a cuddler who is always up for attention and loves her humans, especially when they have food. She also somehow got fleas this summer, which is odd because she is an indoor only cat. Being a responsible pet owner I did what any one would do. I went to the Vet and picked up some Frontline Plus. "Just put it on her skin between her shoulder blades. The Fleas will be gone at the end of a three month cycle.

I went home and the trials started. I placed the Frontline Plus exactly as directed. I vacuumed the house, washed the floors vacuumed the furniture and cleaned all the laundry and bedding. I combed this beautiful cat on a daily basis, removing all evidence of fleas that I could find. Five months later, she still has fleas.

Two weeks after the first dose I noticed the cat scratching. I looked, and boom, there were the fleas. Ok, I thought, the vet said there was a cycle that needed to be broken. I combed through McKinnley's hair for over an hour. I repeated the process every day and still do it to this day. The fleas have not left the poor cat alone.

I have had her professionally groomed, I have talked to the vet who said "You must not be applying it right! Do it again." The next time the line was; "It is a really hard year for fleas, call the 800 number." I called the 800 number and got the run around some more.

I have come to the personal conclusion that theses fleas are some form of super fleas and I vacuum, clean and wash on a regular basis. I have also decided that after 5 months of trying a product, you know it just doesn't work and it is time to change products. I will be making the decision of what to change to this weekend. I am thinking that I will change to Advantage II. I've heard it actually works.

My recommendation is to not buy Frontline Plus because the product does NOT follow through on the promises that the company extends to the buyer. I did not get a refund after talking to the 800 people several times and the vet was not helpful. So along with switching products I will also be switching vets.

I once had a flea problem that took months to solve. In addition to eating the cats, the fleas were attacking me! I used Revolution and paid a professional exterminator to eliminate those that had moved into furniture. I bathed the cats in a flea dip once a week, had the exterminator in at the same time, and applied the Revolution as directed. Almost immediately the number of fleas took a noticeable dip and within 3-4 weeks there were no more.

The exterminator told me the fleas would come in on the human with access to outdoors so indoor cats can end up with infestations. Since that time, I routinely pay for the exterminator and keep Revolution on the cats no matter what. Another problem I noticed arose after a vet visit...not everyone is as religious about keeping the fleas away! Good luck solving your problem.

Sometimes it also helps to switch flea treatments. Like do advantage for awhile and then go back to frontline. I can't even afford those treatments right now due to low income but my cats don't itch as much as when we lived in California. Weird, but I barely see fleas on them, I know they are there though but not infested. I have heard from a friend that Revolution is the best one you can get but it's more money and I think you need a prescription for it. Also be aware that the cats eat their fleas, and fleas cause worms. And you can go get them dewormed but they will just come back from the fleas.
